Brandon and Shieh were the loveliest surprise at the end of my summer season, and contacted me from Singapore a few days before their honeymoon trip to Cape Town. They were very keen to document this special trip, and excited me no end when they asked if there was perhaps a nice place to take photographs around the Cape Peninsula. Being a local, I suddenly saw my own city through the eyes of folks who hadn’t yet been to visit and told them that the real question would be, how do we whittle down the location choices?? In the end, they decided that one shoot would simply not be enough. And so it was, that we spent a happy Tuesday doing both a sunrise and sunset shoot at a few of the most popular tourist spots in Cape Town. The morning (one of my earliest ever call times!) was to capture the sunrise from Signal Hill. It was completely humbling and awe inspiring to stand with these lovely people (and Mia who came to help out) and witness something I hadn’t ever done in my 29 years. I could weep for the beautiful quality of the light, and how perfectly Shieh’s shweshwe dress billowed out in the wind. Later that afternoon I met them again at Boulders Beach in Simons Town for their first, out in nature, encounter with the cheeky African Penguins who were more than happy to be a part of our shoot! Well … mostly. One of them gave Brandon a warning nip on the calf, but I’m convinced it was in fact because that particular penguin wasn’t too keen to share the spotlight;) We ended off on a harbor wall in Kalk Bay, the sunset mauve behind them and an ending as perfect as the beginning of the day. Honestly … meeting people like Brandon and Shieh is what makes my job the joy that it is. Sharing for a moment in their adventures, getting to know new people and seeing my own home as though it was my first time too. Brandon and Shieh, I am so truly happy to be sharing your blog post today for the first look at this awesome selection of my favorites from your pictures! Sending all my love, Claire xxx
