On a misty midday at Llandudno Beach in Cape Town, I met Runé and Cecilie for the very first time. I’d received an email from them the day before to tell me of their plans to elope on what were their last few day’s of a three month trip through Africa! Having been engaged for a while, and dating since they were teenagers, this sweet couple had waited on the right location for their wedding to reveal itself to them. And boy did it! Cheerful, laughing and bonded through our excitement at sharing such an intimate experience, Reverend Brits led us to “marriage rock”. Runé’s parents had flown out from Norway at short notice to join their precious kids and witness their marriage, and I have NEVER seen four people incite such a party! Upon being declared man and wife, we were led to the beach where Runé had organised for a traditional band to serenade their happy dances and champagne popping. With relative privacy on the beach, rays of sun escaping the grey clouds and happiness enough to rival the quantities shown at weddings twenty times the size of this one, I witnessed magic. I witnessed the truest form of a wedding. I witnessed the raw emotions, all of them, and I changed and evolved a little for being a part of it. Runé and Cecilie, I wish I could write this in Norwegian for you, and explain how deeply moved and uplifted I was to spend this day with you. I’m so sad you weren’t here longer so that I could get to know you both a little better. What I got to know however was spectacular, and I will treasure the memory of your day forever! I hope you’ll enjoy seeing these pictures at last, and who knows? Maybe we’ll meet again one day in your country! All my love, Claire xxx
