When the opening dance at a wedding is to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”, you know you’re dealing with the very best kind of people. This was most certainly how I felt at Nic and Lana’s recent winter wedding, and it was just one of many, many details that made this couple so very unique.
True to Capetonian weather patterns, we awoke to the most blissful weather on the morning of their wedding. Clear skies, a warm sun, and all the shades of nature just radiant with approval of the festivities. Groot Constantia is right next door to where Lana grew up, so it was a natural choice for the location of their union. This is just the first of many moments of beautiful sentiment though. The gorgeous orchids you’ll see adoring the groom and groomsmen’s lapels where developed and grown by Eikenhoff Nursery. The stationary, designed to highlight the couples love of orchids, was created by one of the bridesmaids. Moms, aunts and family friends put all the floral arrangements together (I know … how professional do they look?), and the crowning glory was Nicholas’ sister officiating their wedding vows. Just casually, under a tree they picked a few moments before it happened. No stress, no fuss, just good, old fashioned love. Isn’t that the most wonderful experience a couple could hope for on their big day? I was in awe of the manner in which Nic and Lana chose to conduct their wedding, and how they weren’t dictated to in the slightest by tradition or obligation. They took what they liked, and tailor made the rest to suit them. Ultimately? I think thats the best metaphor I could use to sum up what I’ve experienced of their relationship too. Two strong individuals who know themselves and one another, living their lives intentionally and to the full. What a magical thing to bear witness to. Not to mention the imminent arrival of their son (who looked gorgeous in his custom made Robyn Roberts “bump” attire by the way) and who they’ll get to share these images with one day, and say “You see here? You were there with us when we made these promises to one another!”. Oh man, I can’t wait for you to see these pictures! Nic and Lana, I’m so very excited to share this blog post with you today, and I’m so grateful for this experience that you shared with me. All my love, Claire xxx
