FAQ

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PHOTOGRAPHING WEDDINGS?

A.I received my very first booking for a wedding during the summer after finishing a short course in photography. While studying, I knew that wedding photography was what I wanted to pursue, but I had no idea how to begin getting bookings.

Fortunately, a friend suggested my services to her brother while he and his fiancé were planning their special day. The rest has been a rollercoaster ride of learning, failing, getting up and continuing to grow my passion into the business I proudly call my own. Since that first wedding in 2009, I’ve had more than 350 bookings. I’ve also assisted and been a second shooter at numerous others alongside some talented industry colleagues.

DO YOU TRAVEL TO SHOOT INTERNATIONAL WEDDINGS?

A.Yes! Travelling to new places and meeting wonderful people from across the globe is one of the highlights of my profession! Participating in international adventures with happy, soon-to-be-wed couples completely make up for 26-hour flights and 8-hour layovers! I've had the exceptional privilege of photographing weddings in South Africa, the United States of America, Australia, France, Scotland, Germany, Botswana, Malawi, Zambia, and Angola. If you'd like to add to that list, hit me up!

WHAT CAMERA EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?

A.I shoot on a Canon 5D MKiii full frame camera, and the majority of my equipment is also made by Canon. Below is a comprehensive list of the contents of my camera bag. I edit all my images on an MacBook Pro using Adobe Lightroom for post-production.

Canon 5D MKiV & Canon 5D MKiii Camera bodies; Canon 85mm f/1.2 lens; Canon 50mm f/1.2 lens; Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens; Canon 35mm f/2.8 lens; 2 x Yongnuo Flashes.

WHAT PRECAUTIONS DO YOU TAKE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF OUR UNEDITED IMAGES FOLLOWING A SHOOT?

A.Fortunately, modern cameras now include a feature that enables me to record images simultaneously onto two separate memory cards. This ensures the presence of dual memory cards in my camera while I'm capturing photos, creating both a primary and backup file simultaneously. This setup proves beneficial in the unfortunate event of technological failure or card corruption, as I possess a duplicate card containing identical information.

Following a photo shoot, all RAW files are transferred to my computer and remain there until the editing process is complete. Initially, I perform a first backup to an external hard drive, which stays connected to my computer to safeguard the images in case of a computer crash. Subsequently, I create a second backup on another external hard drive, conveniently kept in my handbag (yes, my therapist is aware of my obssessive nature).

DO YOU REQUIRE ACCOMMODATION ON A WEDDING DAY?

A.All my packages incorporate 100 kilometres of travel. If your wedding is located at a distance and requires a drive exceeding one hour after the shoot, I would appreciate overnight accommodation, including bed and breakfast, near your reception venue. This ensures that both my well-being and the safety of your images are not compromised during the journey home. For weddings situated more than 2.5 hours from Cape Town, I typically recommend staying closer the night before as well. This precaution helps reduce the risks associated with traffic, road closures, and any unforeseen circumstances that might interfere with the wedding day itself.
